Here is a basic outline of the stage of production for this video. From a final script, we create colour style frames for key scenes. These would be based on discussion with client using mood boards of past work and other references. With a basic visual approach approved we create a black and white storyboard for the entire spot. Following this approval, and using a scratch track of the VO, we build an animatic from the storyboard to time out each of the scenes and time out supers and any other graphical elements for readability. At this stage we also introduce basic SFX and test out a possible music track. After sign-off on the animatic we move on to the animation stage. Here we refine action and type treatment, adding colour and finessing graphical elements. There would likely be two approval stages here. The first approval half-way through where we can address any necessary revisions, and a final approval at the end where client signs off on the whole spot. After this stage we would create our cut-downs, which would have its own two-stage approval process. Collaboration with our partners is key. Head Gear will be working with you from the beginning stages of organizing the information, to creating the style and building the animation story.
Step 1: Create a style. Client sign-off.
Step 2: Create a storyboard. Client sign-off.
Step 3: Build the Animatic. Client sign-off.
Step 4: Create the Animation. Client sign-off on final spot.
Step 5: Create stand-alone cut downs . Client sign-off on final deliveries.
We imagine the style to be simple, yet elegant and bold. There is a lot of information therefore the look has to have enough flexibility to engage the viewer for the entirety of the script. Sound effects will play a big part in drawing the viewer in and highlighting key points. We also imagine a liberal use of text as another method of highlighting these key points. See (in our references below) ‘Medtoon Anesthesia’ for a good example of how simple text animations can build upon an idea such as the effects of anesthesia.
Head Gear Animation produces a wide array of 2D animation. From hand drawn, traditional cel animation to slick, graphic, digital animation and everything in between. Sometimes black and white line animation is an elegant option other times, a full colour, shaded approach is the right solution. Whatever it takes to tell the story and look pretty sweet!
We specialize in character development, bringing humour, charm and warmth to all of our projects. We have a long history of giving emotion and humanity to all of our animated characters.
When you work with Head Gear, we walk you through the entire process from start to finish and make sure everyone is having a lot of fun along the way…
